I’m fortunate to have discovered an organization company that genuinely practices a “work from anywhere” and flexible work at Addteq. This has allowed me to tailor my work environment to fit my personal preferences and lifestyle seamlessly.

This was not my first foray into it. At my previous job, time-tracking software monitored every second I worked remotely. It felt like I was under constant surveillance. A unique thing I saw at Addteq was that rather than monitoring work hours, we monitor the work instead. In a daily scrum meeting (yes, even for the finance team), we break down our tasks for the day, month, or week and focus on their progress. This frees up our headspace, and instead of worrying about how many hours we have worked, we can truly focus on how much we can contribute to the team.
We don’t need to track work hours, we should track deliverables instead. There is no reason to not apply Agile methodology to business and operations teams.

Rigid shifts were the norm in my past experiences, making balancing work and personal commitments difficult. At Addteq, the flexibility is real and practical. The tracking of deliverables instead of work hours ensures that we just need to focus on the deliverables rather than clocking in or out of the shift.
I remember one instance when I had to get my car fixed. The repair shop’s timing clashed with a meeting with my manager. Instead of stressing out, I joined the call while driving and continued working from a roadside cafe while my car was at the mechanic’s. Some of my colleagues have gone on full week holidays when they had only a few holidays left for the year, and caught up on work from scenic places on their workdays. This is a cultural shift that I did not know I craved, and I shudder to think about going back to a rigid job environment.
